DESCRIPTION
This latest Microtech OTF was Designed by Derek Munroe (Sigil designer) and Anthony Marfione. The Cypher has a RoyAlloy stainless steel chasis and a matching satin finish Bohler M390 blade.
This model design stands out as quite significant with its release as the first new totally engineered and build from the ground up OTF design from Microtech since the Troodon series was introduced in the early the mid 2000s.
If you study this knife you might see what has prior evolved to be attractive and functional tactical aspects of most similar Microtech OTFs is now transformed into custom maker influenced art details that will also function similarly. For example the glass breaker ever present on our Microtech OTFs is now more of strike plate that has varied from knife to knife materialwise in these first few dozen Marfione Custom Cyphers that have been produced. The handles sides and button also well address the issue of the in hand grip with the gradient levels and and random circuit waves making for a fantastic grip in the hand and fingers. Last but not least it's bigger, badder and stronger springwise than anything produced to date from this maker with plenty of juice inside to run out the 4" blade in and out with severe snap.
Looking for that production model at $499? This knife will be in production at a point for sure - but running 1000s knives and keeping all the machines adjusted to the degree Mr Marfione can come in and get consistent measurements from every part so they can be assembled into flawless functional Microtechs might take a few months or a even few dozen months. No doubt building a few dozen prototypes by hand and personally fitting every part certainly took quite a few months but that's how great knives are born and legends are forged.
