There are some really cool knives and then there are some legendary really cool knives. 15 or so years ago the OTF knives that fill this PVK.VEGAS site once fit into the legendary cool category but now we can all own a decent one for a couple hundred bucks. The good side openers started showing up 20+ years ago. It doesn't seem like there's much more ground to cover here except to make it even cooler using the about the same platforms. So what else could you do?
The Trap door OTF was devised for knife collectors and maybe military field use but they just weren't that good, cheaply made and it was so long ago it's basically been forgotten the last ones were built in the late 50s. How did they work? Push the button, the door pops open and the knife ejects all in one operation.
We all love OTFs but there is an issue in there that if you get something inside your blade cavity like dirt or any significant debris that knife isn't going to work too well at all till it's cleaned out. Enter the Trap Door door knife design. Exactly the same idea as the Microtech NAVY Scarab - that cover on the front is there to keep that blade cavity debris free and ready for action. This is just the first prototype and you can expect the great minds who engineer our awesome high tech knives here to bring us a lot more of this in the future, It is a huge challenge to get this amount of function into the compacted design of today's OTF. Burn has done an excellent job here and he deserves much more than the round of applause he's getting for being the only maker to execute this design in the last 60 years. This is truly a one of a kind priceless treasure.
